This fig tree (Mogoiywet) is found in the Angata Barikoi area in Kilgoris Constituency, Narok County. The tree is approximately 300 years old.

It is said that the prominent Kipsigis prophet, Mugeni arap Monde, made several prophecies under and around this tree, some of which have come to pass.

Mugeni was known for his visions and prophecies about future events in the Kipsigis region, which came to him during his daily activities.

Therefore, this tree is sacred to the Kipsigis community, as Mugeni blessed it and decreed here that the Kipsigis people should forever guard their land and ancestry from Angata Barikoi to Laikipia.

This tree is where most rituals and declarations in Kipsigis land, especially in the Transmara region, are conducted, including the blessing of leaders.

Mugeni was a descendant of the Kipkendek clan (Sololo), whose totem is the bee, and his mother was from the Talai clan. Today, Kipkendek clan sons Hon. Isaac Ruto and Hon. Nelson Koech paid homage to the sacred fig tree after attending a land conflict resolution meeting in Angata Barikoi.

It is estimated that Mugeni died in 1920 and was buried adjacent to what is today’s Sotik Police Station in Bomet County.
