In a startling turn of events, Margaret Wanjiru Kuria and Serah Watiri Gathura find themselves in legal trouble after being charged with obtaining goods worth Sh 220 million under pretenses.

The Charges

The duo appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki and denied charges alleging that they pretended to be employees of the World Food Programme (WFP) to obtain goods from a company.

The accused, Margaret Wanjiru Kuria and Serah Watiri Gathura are charged with obtaining 9,903 90Kg bags of white maize, 9,450 cartons of 25×800 grams of Menengai bar soap, 9,700 jerricans of 20 liters of Pika cooking oil, and 4,400 50Kg bags of brown sugar, all valued at approximately USD 1,673,209 (Sh 220 million) from Frontline Tarkipa Media Limited. They allegedly did so by falsely claiming to be employees of the WFP, which was purportedly going to pay for the items.

Conspiracy Allegations

Kuria and Gathura are further charged with conspiring with others not before the court to defraud Frontline Tarkipa Media Limited of the aforementioned goods.

The offense is alleged to have been committed between 7th February and 4th April 2024 in Nairobi.

The accused persons vehemently denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki.
