Emmanuel Wekesa Masika

In a remarkable display of courage and resourcefulness, Emmanuel Wekesa Masika last year, as a KMTC student in his third year, defied all odds to perform a successful delivery along the treacherous Webuye-Malaba road.

He did thus in the heartwarming incident of August 16, 2023, at 1:00 pm, where with no medical equipment but guided solely by his training, experience, and a deep commitment to his profession, he successfully facilitated the safe delivery of a healthy baby girl.

Residents and medical colleagues united in lauding Wekesa for his extraordinary feat.

“His quick thinking and determination in the face of adversity have set an inspiring example for us all,” Dr. Jane Auma, a healthcare professional, said then.

“Wekesa’s actions serve as a reminder of the boundless impact that compassionate individuals can have on their communities.” She added.

After the delivery, Wekesa’s colleagues helped the mother and the child to seek further treatment at a nearby hospital, where she was later discharged.

By then, the mother of the newborn had spoken to the Star on the phone and said that Wekesa greatly assisted her.

She said everybody else ignored her plights, but the nursing student quickly intervened in her hour of need.

“I thank God for him. I never knew he was a young man with medical skills, but I am fine now with my child,” she said.

Wekesa was among the many KMTC students who graduated yesterday at Kasarani.

Alongside his mother, Carolyne Mukinisu, he said that he is well prepared to serve and he must serve everyone in need.

He said that he had achieved a lot of skills that he was ready to unleash on humanity.

“I am ready to serve. I want to thank my mom, brothers, lecturers, and those who supported me through this tedious journey. We are now going to fix some mess in the health sector, and I am ready to serve,” he said.

His mother, Carolyne Mukinisu, said that he was proud of what Wekesa had achieved.

“I am happy for his achievement; we now hope that all goes early and I release him to serve all Kenyans who need his attention,” she said.

Elizabeth Wekesa, his sister, also urged him to serve with decorum and respect and called on him to uphold professionalism.
