Sammy Louis Karanja Charged

Sammy Louis Karanja has pleaded not guilty to charges of land fraud amounting to Sh350 million before Magistrate Ondieki at the Milimani Law Courts.

He is accused of conspiring with others not before the court to defraud Hasmita Patel, trading as Holloway Properties Limited, of a 1.591-hectare parcel of land along Mombasa Road in Nairobi.

The alleged fraud involved forging a land grant dated November 23, 2001, and presenting it as genuine. Karanja also faces an additional charge of forgery.

Louis was charged with forging the signature of a commissioner of land on a certain document, namely a grant dated November 23, 2001, purporting it to be a genuine grant signed and issued by Jane Kanja, knowing it was not true.

He is said to have purported it to be a genuine grant issued by the Ministry of Lands at Arthi House, knowing it was untrue.

He was also charged in the last count with obtaining money by force of preferences against the law.

The court was informed that on November 10, 2023, within the country, jointly with others not before the court, with intent to defraud, he obtained shillings 12 million from Onda Concrete by firstly pretending that he was able to lease for them a parcel of land, knowing it was untrue.
He was released on a Sh 50M bond or a cash bail of Sh 10 M.

The pretrial will be on June 23, 2025.
