Hon. Winfred Asiko Abuti Advocates for Respectful Mourning

In a heartfelt gathering at Khaunga Village, East Wanga Ward, Mumias East Constituency, the community came together to mourn the loss of Fred Okutoyi Mutinyu, a dedicated community servant known for his deep love for family and unwavering commitment to societal well-being.

Among the mourners was Hon. Winfred Asiko Abuti, a prominent aspirant for the Kakamega County Women Representative seat in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Her presence and poignant address underscored the significance of honoring the departed with dignity and the imperative for youth to uphold integrity amidst political landscapes.

Fred Okutoyi Mutinyu’s legacy is etched in the hearts of many within Khaunga Village and beyond. His life was a testament to selfless service, characterized by initiatives that fostered community development and cohesion.

Hon. Winfred Asiko Abuti’s journey into the political arena is both inspiring and commendable. Transitioning from her earlier roles in fashion and modeling, where she held titles such as Miss Corporate World Kakamega County (2014-15), she ventured into politics with a vision to effect tangible change.

Her initial political bid in 2017 for the Kilimani Ward MCA seat, though unsuccessful, did not deter her spirit. Instead, it fueled her ambition, leading her to vie for the Kakamega Senatorial position in 2022.

Her resilience and commitment to public service have now positioned her as a formidable contender for the Kakamega County Women Representative seat in 2027.

During her address at the funeral, Hon. Abuti emphasized the sanctity of funeral gatherings, urging the youth to resist any form of political manipulation that could lead to disruptions.

She highlighted the growing concern of funerals being transformed into political arenas, a trend that not only dishonors the deceased but also undermines community values.

Citing recent incidents where political rivalries have marred funeral proceedings, she called upon the youth to uphold the dignity of such occasions and reject any attempts by politicians to incite chaos.

The misuse of funerals for political mileage has been a growing concern in various regions. Such actions not only disrespect the grieving families but also erode the cultural and moral fabric of communities.

Religious leaders, including bishops from the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), have voiced their opposition to this trend, emphasizing that funerals and church functions should remain free from political undertones. They advocate for these occasions to be reserved for mourning and spiritual reflection, devoid of political agendas.

The funeral of Fred Okutoyi Mutinyu served as a poignant reminder of the values of community service, integrity, and respect for cultural practices.

Hon. Winfred Asiko Abuti’s presence and her heartfelt message resonated with many, reinforcing the need to honor the departed with dignity and for the youth to remain vigilant against political exploitation.

As communities navigate the complexities of modern political dynamics, the call for preserving the sanctity of traditional practices becomes ever more crucial.
