A group of local leaders in Webuye has issued a strong call to action, urging women to take a more proactive role in transforming their communities by focusing on education and financial independence.

Speaking during a Community-Based Organisation (CBO) event held in Milo, Webuye West, Inua Ai CEO Humphrey Muchuma emphasised the crucial role women play in societal progress. He noted that the empowerment of women is a key factor in fighting poverty and unlocking new levels of development within the region.

“When women prioritize their children’s education and strive to uplift their own financial status, the entire community benefits,” said Muchuma. “Empowerment at the grassroots is the first step toward building a more equal and prosperous society.”

The event, which brought together community members, leaders, and CBO representatives, highlighted the need for collective efforts in addressing social challenges, especially those affecting women and children. Muchuma praised the work of local organisations in championing causes that directly impact vulnerable groups and called for sustained support and funding.

Local women in attendance shared their experiences and challenges, ranging from limited access to capital for small businesses to the struggle of ensuring consistent school attendance for their children. Many expressed hope that such forums would spark more community-driven initiatives that empower women with both knowledge and resources.

The leaders also stressed the importance of mentorship programmes, skills training, and collaboration between government and community organisations to create long-lasting change.

As the event concluded, there was a renewed sense of determination among attendees. The message was clear: By investing in their families and taking control of their economic futures, women in Webuye can become powerful agents of change.
