Businessman Mohammed Khalif Hassan has been charged in connection with an alleged Sh8 million spaghetti importation fraud. He was arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki, where he firmly denied all charges brought against him.

The court session marked the beginning of what could become a high-profile legal battle involving claims of deception and substantial financial loss.

According to the prosecution, Mohammed Khalif Hassan was accused of defrauding a businessman, Osman Mohamed Ali, of Sh8,512,700.

The alleged offence occurred between February 18, 2023, and May 21, 2024, at an unspecified location within the country. The charge claims Khalif misrepresented himself as having the capability to import spaghetti, despite knowing this to be false.

In court, the prosecution emphasised that the alleged scam was premeditated and designed to exploit trust for personal financial gain.

However, Mohammed Khalif Hassan pleaded not guilty, and the defence is expected to challenge both the substance and scope of the allegations as the case proceeds.

Following his plea, the magistrate granted Mohammed Khalif Hassan bail terms, allowing his release on a Sh700,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Sh2 million, supported by two sureties of the same value.

The case has been adjourned for further mention and possible setting of hearing dates as investigations continue.
