Busia Referral Hospital turns into Death Trap as Teacher dies due to lack of an ambulance amid allegations of negligence by health workers.
The hospital is once again under scrutiny after Samia teacher Moses Dismus Oduor died following what family and witnesses describe as medical negligence.
Oduor was involved in a road accident on Friday evening while on his way to pick up his wife. He was rushed to Sio Port Sub-County Hospital before being referred to Busia Referral Hospital.
Despite arriving unconscious, it took two days for a radiologist to examine his head CT scan, which was done on Saturday.
As of 2pm on Monday, the report was still not available, with staff citing the absence of a radiologist. It was not until the family members panicked and contacted the higher management that Dr. Namudala Emukule released the report, confirming that the teacher was in a critical condition and required immediate ICU care.
However, the evacuation process took an additional 2.5 hours due to unavailability of ambulance services and delayed systems.
- By the time Oduor was admitted to Life Care Hospital at around 8pm, his condition had deteriorated, however, he was taken straight to the ICU but passed away shortly afterwards.
