In a dramatic twist, police have uncovered a key piece of the puzzle in the brutal assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Were Ong’ondo. A daring raid in Kayole’s Chokaa area led to the recovery of a pistol believed to be the murder weapon alongside a second firearm, a suspect’s bag and shoes, police uniforms, mobile phones, and over USD 4,800 in cash.
But that’s not all. Forensic analysis has tied the deadly gun to at least three other violent crimes in Nairobi and Kiambu, painting a chilling picture of a lethal weapon circulating in the criminal underworld.
The net is tightening around a suspected, well-organised and heavily funded criminal syndicate, as four suspects are now behind bars: William Imoli Shighali, alias Omar Shakur; Juma Ali Haikal (shockingly, a police officer); Douglas Muchiri Wambugu; and David Mihigo Kagame. All are being held for 30 days as detectives piece together the sinister plot.

But the conspiracy runs deeper. Investigators are on the hunt for more culprits, including a boda boda rider and another police officer allegedly involved in coordinating the assassination via a deactivated SIM card registered under a false identity.
Adding another twist, MP Were’s driver and bodyguard, both of whom escaped the bloody scene unscathed, are under detention after their stories failed to add up.
As the nation grapples with the shocking loss, Were’s body is set to be flown to Homa Bay on Thursday, with a final farewell in Kachien Village on Friday.
This murder mystery is far from over. Will justice prevail, or are darker forces at play?
