FAKE GOLD FRENZY: 11 NABBED IN SPRING VALLEY AS 350 KGS OF FOOL’S GOLD SEIZED IN HIGH-STAKES STING
In a dramatic crackdown on Nairobi’s rampant gold scams, detectives arrested Allan Zephaniah Onyango and ten others in Spring Valley, seizing 350 kilograms of fake gold in a high-stakes sting.
This elite syndicate, posing as legitimate dealers, duped victims out of hundreds of thousands of dollars using counterfeit gold, forged documents, and props mimicking official Ministry of Mining gear.
Detectives from the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office pounced on a high-profile gold scamming syndicate, arresting eleven suspects and seizing a jaw-dropping 350 kilograms of fake gold.
A tip-off from a devastated victim sparked the operation, swindling out of a whopping USD 546,000 in a sham gold deal.
Acting fast on solid intelligence, sleuths stormed a plush hideout in the Spring Valley estate, where they found the suspects knee-deep in counterfeit glory. Among the haul? A whopping 305kg of fake gold, a weighing scale, and a flashy “tester gun” used to fake authenticity.
But that’s not all; officers also uncovered forged documents and a dust coat branded with the Ministry of Mining’s logo, a prop the fraudsters allegedly used to swindle unsuspecting investors with a false sense of legitimacy.
The suspects, a blend of Kenyan, Congolese, and Cameroonian nationals, are now cooling their heels at the Capitol Hill Police Station. They include Allan Zephaniah Onyango, Nicodemus Okoth, Phillip Onyango, Elmad Ochola, Shem Omollo, Edward Leonard Ochieng, James Jeremiah Akumu, Nfundiko Kamira, Lukabaya Mulamba, Ibrahim Nzamgou, and Mike Fouapon.
As investigations deepen, detectives are piecing together what could be one of the most elaborate scams to rock Nairobi’s underworld. The seized loot is being held as evidence as the suspects await their day in court.
