Tension is brewing in Nandi County, as health workers have accused the county government of ordering them back to work without a clear agreement in place.
In a memo dated April 25, 2025, the Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation demanded that all Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff and Community Health Promoters (CHPs) resume duties immediately for a headcount exercise, following a consultative meeting between the Ministry of Health and the Council of Governors.

But the workers are pushing back, claiming they’re being herded back to duty with no formal return-to-work framework and no assurance that their longstanding grievances will be addressed.
Speaking out, the health workers say they fear their welfare has once again been brushed aside, raising serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and the future of healthcare services in the county.
