Opulence meets scandal in Jared Kiasa Otieno’s fall
On Thursday morning, social media was awash with reports of the arrest of one of the main fugitives in the fake gold scandal, Jared Kiasa Otieno.
Kenyans questioned how the man had amassed such wealth and occasionally displayed it on social media. Reports emerged that Otieno owned homes in the palatial residences of Karen and Lavington in Nairobi.
Some newspapers claimed that his Karen home was yet to be occupied by Otieno. Other reports alleged that he had furnished the residence to the tune of Ksh 110 million, as he had paid for it in cash. Jared is famous for spending Ksh30 million to acquire a customised Porsche. Detectives towed away Mr Otieno’s two luxurious cars, a Porsche and a Bentley, that were parked at his newly acquired home.
