The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Nairobi Central Police Station, Samson Talaam, has been ordered to spend 15 more days behind bars as detectives dig deeper into the chilling death of blogger Albert Ojwang, who died under mysterious circumstances while in police custody.
Delivering the ruling, Magistrate BenMark Ekhubi said the prosecution had laid out compelling grounds to deny the senior officer bail, pointing to disturbing allegations of cover-ups and evidence tampering.
Ekhubi noted that while courts typically require solid proof of threats or interference, this case went further. The court heard that the crime scene had been interfered with and that CCTV footage from the station, which could have shed light on what happened to Ojwang, had been manipulated.
The ruling marks a major twist in a case that has gripped the nation and sparked widespread outrage, with protesters demanding justice for Ojwang, who was last seen alive in police hands.
