The Motorists Association of Kenya has issued a stern statement to the government ahead of the anticipated Saba Saba protests, demanding firm adherence to constitutional rights and responsible policing.
Citing the chaos and destruction witnessed during the June 25 demonstrations, the association is calling on authorities to protect peaceful protestors, secure private property and businesses, ensure the smooth flow of public transport, and strictly avoid the use of excessive force.
They invoked Article 37 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to assemble and demonstrate peacefully, urging police not to infringe on this freedom. The group warned that another violent clampdown would not only endanger lives but also erode public trust in security agencies.
