Hon. James Wanjohi has officially announced a fully sponsored scholarship programme at the Wanjohi Technical Training Institute (WTTI).
The initiative, themed “Empowering Kabete Through Skills”, aims to provide young people with practical, high-income skills at no tuition cost. Hon. Wanjohi, the incoming Member of Parliament for Kabete, stated that the programme is part of his broader commitment to poverty eradication and youth empowerment.
Unlike traditional academic programmes, this scholarship focuses on specialised vocational training that allows for immediate self-employment or entry into the service industry. The current intake covers:
Barista Training: Professional coffee making and cafe management.
DJ Skills: Sound engineering and entertainment management.
Digital Marketing: Leveraging social media for online business growth.
In a directive aimed at ensuring total inclusivity, Hon. Wanjohi announced that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Orphans are exempt from all costs.
“In the spirit of compassion, orphans and PWDs are fully sponsored. They are not required to pay even the registration fees,” noted Hon. Wanjohi.
For other applicants, the tuition remains free, with only a one-time registration fee of Ksh 1,000 required to secure a slot.
The scholarship launch follows the successful conclusion of the James Wanjohi Muguga Ward Pool Table Tournament on February 22, 2026. These weekly tournaments, held across every ward in the county, have become a vital platform for:
Mentorship: Connecting youth with community leaders.
Crime Prevention: Providing constructive social outlets.
Financial Reward: Prizes ranging from Ksh 1,000 to Ksh 12,000.
Hon. Wanjohi has specifically reached out to the clergy and religious institutions within Kabete, asking them to identify talented individuals within their congregations who lack the financial means to pursue further education.
“We want to ensure that no talent in Kabete remains untapped due to a lack of school fees,” he added.
