Speaking during a house handover ceremony in Kiminini Sub-County under the transformative George Natembeya Foundation initiative, Governor George Natembeya called on the national government to respect and uphold the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, particularly the freedom of expression.
The governor decried the increasing attempts to suppress divergent views, stating that curtailing freedom of expression in today’s democratic and modern society is both unfair and unacceptable.
He went on to highlight the growing concerns over inefficiencies and incompetence within various arms of the national government, urging for reforms and accountability across public service institutions.
On the matter of Nzoia Sugar Company, Governor Natembeya issued a stern warning, noting that the entity would be repossessed if the current management under the Rai Group continues to demonstrate poor performance. He emphasized that the lease acquisition process was marred by irregularities, and thus, the government reserves the right to revoke it in the interest of the people.
Addressing national political dynamics, Governor Natembeya took a bold stance, urging veteran leaders Hon. Moses Wetang’ula and Hon. Musalia Mudavadi to step aside from active engagement in Mulembe affairs. He accused them of pursuing self-interest at the expense of the common mwananchi, saying it’s time for fresh and people-centered leadership in the region.
He concluded by commending the Gen Z movement for their bold demand for justice and accountability, affirming his unwavering support for their cause and reiterating the importance of civic participation in strengthening democracy.
