The family of Boniface Kariuki, the Nairobi hawker who was shot by police during the anti-government protests on June 17th, has confirmed the heartbreaking news that he is brain-dead.
According to relatives, Boniface has remained in critical condition since the day of the shooting, having sustained a severe head injury. Doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital have reportedly informed the family that there is no hope of recovery.

Boniface, a 27-year-old father of two, had joined the demonstrations in the city center to protest the high cost of living. Witnesses say he was unarmed and peaceful when he was shot by police officers attempting to disperse the crowd.
His family is now demanding justice, accountability, and answers from authorities. “He was just a hustler, trying to survive like everyone else,” said his sister, visibly shaken. “Now we’re being told he’s gone, even though his heart is still beating.”
The news adds to growing public outrage over the use of force by law enforcement during recent protests across the country.
