In a high-octane raid that left Kubisera village reeling, four suspected bandits met their fate at the hands of a multi-agency security team. Acting on orders from Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, the elite Counter Terrorism Unit swooped in with lethal precision, putting an end to a gang believed to be behind a reign of terror in Igembe, Meru County.
Just days after Murkomen’s emphatic call to escalate the fight against banditry, intelligence led the officers to a makeshift camp where the armed suspects were swiftly neutralised. The aftermath of the deadly encounter revealed a haul of six AK-47 rifles, 527 bullets, and eight mobile phones, grim evidence of the gang’s firepower.
The slain criminals were said to be key players in a brutal network that had been tormenting local communities, sparking Murkomen’s recent mandate to bolster security. In a bid to empower grassroots defence, the CS ordered the deployment of more National Police Reservists and the arming of vetted, trained local chiefs.
