At least seven people were killed on Saturday, August 9, when a Nairobi-bound matatu collided head-on with a lorry at Korompoi, along the Isinya-Namanga highway in Kajiado County. Witnesses say the matatu was attempting to overtake when it crashed into the oncoming lorry, leaving both vehicles mangled beyond recognition. Several passengers died on the spot, while others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Police have launched investigations into the accident, which caused a major traffic snarl-up on the busy highway. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, as the Isinya-Namanga stretch has become notorious for deadly crashes.

Police in Nairobi arrested three suspects on Wednesday, believed to be part of a major Nairobi phone theft syndicate operating in the Central Business District. The arrests followed a targeted operation aimed at curbing the rising cases of smartphone snatching in the city. During the raid, officers recovered more than 70 stolen mobile phones and assorted electronic items. The operation comes amid growing public outcry over rampant daylight muggings and theft, particularly targeting unsuspecting commuters and pedestrians in the CBD. Police say the crackdown will continue as part of broader efforts to dismantle organised gangs responsible for the wave of…
Thika boda boda riders have raised alarm over what they describe as a rising wave of extortion by plainclothes police officers. The riders allege that the officers, who often patrol on unmarked motorcycles, routinely demand bribes for minor or questionable infractions such as not wearing helmets, lacking reflector jackets, or missing documentation violations that the officers themselves are allegedly guilty of. In a recent incident that has sparked public outrage, an elderly milk vendor from Kandara was reportedly harassed and intimidated by the same officers. Locals say the case highlights a disturbing level of impunity, where even the most vulnerable…
Kericho residents are up in arms over the continued inaccessibility of county government offices, accusing local authorities of denying them essential public services. Frustrated locals say the situation has forced them to endure long delays in accessing critical documents and services, with some lamenting being turned away without assistance. They now want Governor Eric Mutai’s administration to urgently address the matter, terming it a blatant disregard for public service delivery. Many fear the trend is eroding public trust in county leadership, with calls growing louder for transparency, accountability, and immediate reopening of all public offices to serve wananchi.
Kenyan preacher Rosalind Wanyeki, who fled to Canada in 2020 and established a gospel ministry in Toronto, is facing deportation alongside her two young daughters on Thursday, August 7th, after Canadian immigration authorities denied her asylum and residency applications. Wanyeki, a well-known figure in her local faith community, has lived in Canada for five years and built a support base through her ministry.
