Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has voluntarily stepped aside to allow for the completion of investigations into the death of Albert Ojwang.

In a statement, Lagat said the decision was made in good conscience and consideration of his responsibilities as a senior police officer.

“Given the ongoing investigations on the unfortunate incident of the death of Mr Albert Ojwang, I have today opted to step aside… pending completion of investigations,” he said.

Lagat added that the functions of the office would now be performed by his deputy until the process concludes. He also pledged full cooperation with the authorities and offered condolences to the family of the late Albert Ojwang.

“I undertake to provide any support that may be required of me… and offer immense condolences to the family for their great loss,” he said.
