Embu Senator Alexander Munyi Mundigi has rejected claims by the Democratic Party of Kenya (DPK) that he campaigned for a rival political aspirant, insisting he remains a loyal member and acting deputy party leader.

In a letter dated December 18, 2025, his lawyers, Danstan Omari & Associates, responded to a summons issued by the party accusing the senator of supporting a candidate other than the party’s nominee for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat. The lawyers said Mundigi was informed of the allegations while on official duty in Uganda and was not afforded an opportunity to be heard before disciplinary action was initiated.

The response argues that the party acted prematurely by issuing summons without first engaging the senator, noting that he has consistently remitted all party dues. The letter further points out that key party organs, including the National Delegates Committee and the National Governing Council, are mandated under the party constitution to make such decisions.

Mundigi’s lawyers also contend that the Democratic Party of Kenya remains a member of the Kenya Kwanza coalition, giving the senator the right to support candidates within the coalition framework.

The senator maintains he is a committed member of the party and has not resigned or acted contrary to its interests.
